MILKFED will soon set up 1000 milk booths across Punjab

Ferozepur, September 29, 2022: Under the able leadership of Bhagwant Maan Chief Minister Punjab, the processing plant of one lakh litre capacity installed under the National Agriculture Development Plan was inaugurated on the day of celebration of Bhagat Singh 115th birth anniversary on Sept. 28.

On this occasion, he informed that the facilities of dairy processing, pasteurization, chilling plant and boiler etc. have been provided in this unit. Earlier there was no processing and packing facility at Milk Union Ferozepur and this union collected milk from its milk jurisdiction and sent this milk to Milk Union Ludhiana and other unions for further processing. After the establishment of a milk processing facility at this milk union, fresh milk and milk products will be supplied to Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Jalalabad and other nearby towns and markets by packaging under the brand Verka. This step will go a long way in improving the financial condition of Milk Union Ferozepur.

Apart from providing remunerative rate of milk to more than 20,000 milk producers currently affiliated with Milk Union Ferozepur, this step will provide employment opportunities to the youth and entrepreneurs of adjoining areas. Shri Bhagwant Mann, Chief Minister, Punjab said that his government is committed to all-round development of Punjab and providing good employment to its youth.

Milkfed will be given the freedom to take sound business decisions in accordance with the market competition and to capture in the new markets, so that this cooperative can increase its business significantly in the future. Milkfed will be fully supported to make inroads in Delhi and other markets. Milkfed will aim to increase its sales tumover by 100 percent in the next 5 years to reach Rs 10,000 crore in total sales.

Milkfed will soon set up 1000 milk booths across Punjab, which will not only increase the sale of milk products but also provide employment to the youth.

He also handed over the appointment letters to the newly recruited 32 Assistant Managers on this occasion and encouraged the newly recruited youths to serve the milk producers with sincerity and diligence so as to take Verka to new heights. He also announced that the recruitment process for 800 different posts will be started by Milkfed soon so that the work of Milkfed can be done in a comprehensive manner.

On this occasion Mrs. Ravneet Kaur, IAS, Special Chief Secretary (Cooperation) said that Milkfed is committed to the all-round development of milk producers and it will ensure that the best milk rate is provided to the milk producers and also With modern technology to provide a safe milk product to our customers at a very reasonable rate. Various schemes are being launched by the Department of Cooperation to connect the youth with the dairy profession and provide loans etc., so that Punjab can maintain its established standards in dairying. He said that all the milk plants of Milkfed are being modernized in a systematic way so that the brand Verka can make its way not only at the national level but also at the international level. Milkfed has increased the price of Rs. 20/- per kilogramme of fat for milk producers from 21.08.2022 so that the dairy business remains profitable for them.

On this occasion Mr. Amit Dhaka, IAS Managing Director, Milkfed said that this project has been completed at a cost of about Rs. 15.0 crore rupees, out of which Rs. 10.68 crore rupees have been provided by the Punjab Government as a grant under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY) and this the project has been completed by IDMC Limited on a turnkey basis. IDMC is a subsidiary company of National Dairy Development. Apart from this, he also informed that new projects are under progress by Milkfed at Ludhiana Jalandhar and Patiala and in the next phase the infrastructure of Verka Milk Plant Sangrur, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur is being modernized, a grant of 16 crore rupees has been approved by the Punjab government under the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
