Fed a snake for 25 years, now it’s hissing at us: Uddhav Thackeray’s veiled jibe at BJP

In a veiled attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said, “We fed a snake for 25 years… Now the same snake is hissing at us…but we know how to crush this snake…”

“We are ready to take anyone heads on who charges onto us,” Uddhav Thackeray said.

Uddhav Thackeray made scathing comments about Shiv Sena’s former alliance partner, the BJP, while addressing a joint meeting of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) MLAs and leaders in Mumbai on the eve of the state budget session. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar was also present at the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, Uddhav Thackeray had instructed MLAs to ensure 100 per cent attendance during the budget session. Uddhav Thackeray had skipped the last session due to health issues following his spinal cord surgery.

NCP supremo Sharad Pawar also targeted the Centre, calling it “vindictive”.

“Never ever in my political career have I seen such a vindictive central government,” Sharad Pawar said while referring to Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik’s arrest in a money laundering case.

Sharad Pawar said Mamata Banerjee called him after Nawab Malik’s arrest. “Mamata Banerjee said that even four of her party colleagues were jailed [by the Centre] but she fought them back. She said that they [BJP] can be defeated but we have to be united in the fight,” he said.

In February this year, the Enforcement Directorate arrested NCP leader Nawab Malik in connection with a case related to elements linked to Dawood Ibrahim and the underworld.
