Man held at Hyderabad airport with gold paste worth Rs 50 lakh

The Customs department sleuths booked a case for smuggling of gold against a passenger who arrived by Indigo Flight 6E187 from Imphal to Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad on Tuesday.

The man was carrying 975.16 grams of gold in paste form in his rectum. The value of the seized gold is worth Rs 50.70 lakh.

“Based on intelligence,on 22.02.22 Hyderabad Customs booked a case for smuggling of gold against a male pax who arrived by Indigo Flight 6E187 from Imphal. 975.16 grams of gold in paste form valued at Rs.50.70 lakhs concealed inside rectum recovered&seized,” Hyderabad Customs said in a tweet. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the Hyderabad Customs booked a case of smuggling of gold against the passenger. The passenger tried to smuggle 975.16 grams of gold in paste form worth Rs 50.70 lakh hidden inside his rectum. The officials seized the gold and launched a probe.

Passenger caught earlier too

On February 19, the Customs department intercepted a passenger who was carrying gold worth Rs 20.40 lakh. The passenger arrived by Air India flight AI 952 from Dubai to Hyderabad airport on Saturday.

The passenger concealed the gold in the paste form between outer and inner sheets of corrugated boxes and smuggled it to Hyderabad.
