Maharashtra: 55-year-old anti-corruption activist stabbed to death by neighbour in KolhapurKolhapur: In a shocking incident, a 55-year-old RTI activist was stabbed to death in Ichalkaranji town of Kolhapur district of Maharashtra on Tuesday night. The murder was said to be the result of ‘personal enmity’. The victim has been identified as Suresh Annappa Gadage. According to police, the assailant is identified as 33-yer-old Shravan Kumar Shyamsundar Dayama, who is a neighbour of the victim. The murder took place when Gadage was out to feed stray dogs. The accused started abusing Gadage and this led to a verbal exchange. Dayama pulled out a knife and slit the throat of Gadage, according to a report in Times of India. The victim was immediately rushed to Ichalkaranji civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. The accused Dayama had a criminal record and had some personal enmity with Gadage. They had earlier quarrelled over a parking issue. However, the actual reason behind the murder is yet to be ascertained. A case was filed against the accused sometime back over an assault,” the report quoted Shailesh Balkawade, DSP. Gadage was active in public life for over two decades. The victim was also associated with Anna Hazare for several years. Gadage had contested assembly elections in 2009 and secured over 1,400 votes. After leaving Hazare’s outfit, he was also associated with Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). The victim’s son Saket has filed a case of murder against the accused under section 302 (murder) at Shivajinagar police station. The accused has been sent to seven days police custody.
