Badal’s demand for a fresh probe in ’84 riots premeditated and politically motivated : Khaira

Chandigarh, Badal’s demand for a fresh probe by SIT into the 1984 riots is a Badal-BJP conspiracy, to ensure Sikh votes in the Delhi polls Says Congress Leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira.

In a press statement released here, Sukhpal Khaira Said that t he letter shot off by Mr. Badal to the Prime Minister demanding a fresh probe by SIT into the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, is yet another political gimmick and a SAD-BJP conspiracy to ensure Sikh votes in the Delhi elections. The BJP which is apparently on a weak wicket in Delhi, is leaving no stone unturned to win the elections. As a part of this strategy, the BJP and Mr. Badal in a premeditated move have cleverly leaked to media, likely setting up of a SIT to probe afresh the 1984 riots, since an announcement at this juncture was not possible due to Model Code of Conduct.he added

If the BJP was serious to ensure speedy justice to the aggrieved Sikh victims, why did it wait for eight months to implement a decision taken by the Kejriwal government to set up a SIT on 30th January 2014? Why a similar SIT was not set up by the previous Vajpayee lead NDA government in office from 1999-2004, in which the junior Badal was a Minister? he added

On the contrary, Congress dares the Modi government to also include the role of 49 BJP and RSS workers named in 14 FIR’s, by the Jain-Aggarwal committee in 1992-94, in the terms of reference of SIT probe. Infact one FIR No. 35 dated 8th June 1992, carries the name of Ram Kumar a prominent Delhi BJP leader and election agent of Mr. Vajpayee in the 1980 polls, as an accused charged with heinous crimes of rioting, dacoity and attempt to murder. His residence at 87, Hari Nagar Ashram was also the election office of Mr. Vajpayee, during his campaign. he added

Although, I have no hesitation to admit that the Congress party failed to deliver justice to the victims of 1984 anti-Sikh riots, but the track record of BJP and Mr. Badal is no better and are only shedding crocodile tears for cheap political gains. Congress challenges both the BJP and Mr. Badal to deny the nefarious role of BJP and the RSS in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.he added

Why has Mr. Badal not pressurized the Modi government for the last eight months, to first implement the Nanawati Commission report gathering dust? Let Mr. Badal also clarify, what he has done as CM for the last 13 years post 1984 riots, for the rehabilitation of riot victims in Punjab? His government has failed to allocate residential and commercial flats to the victims, besides dishonoring its commitment to offer government jobs to them. The “Danga-Peerat” society of 1984 riot victims is running from pillar to post and has finally knocked the doors of High Court of Punjab and Haryana for justice. he said

The fact of the matter is that, neither the BJP nor Mr. Badal is serious in ensuring justice to the victims of 1984 riots and the so called setting up of a new SIT, is yet another political stunt of both the parties to whip up passions of 5 percent Sikhs and in all around 25 percent Punjabi population of the capital for electoral gains.he added
