Chandigarh,People’s Party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal today said the Badal government had failed to make proper arrangements for the supply of urea to farmers. Any further scarcity of the fertiliser would hit farmers hard, he said.
He said the government was making tall claims about the adequate availability of urea, but farmers all over the state were facing hardship in procuring the fertiliser.
Now, there were reports that farmers owing allegiance to the Akali Dal were getting preference in the supply of urea, he said. The government was not for a particular section or a party, but for the entire state. As such, the situation was highly condemnable, he added.
He said it was not for the first time that the state government had failed to make adequate arrangement for the timely supply of urea. The situation “flew in the face” of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal who always projected himself to be the champion of the farmers’ cause.
Manpreet said the time was running out fast and the urea shortage for even a few more days would damage the crops and farmers would suffer.
He called upon the Chief Minister to personally intervene to rectify distortions in the supply line in case there was no shortage at other levels. In case, the supply to the state was inadequate, immediate arrangements must be made to make urea available in accordance with the demand, he added.
