UP: People killed during anti-CAA protests are ‘martyrs’, says Owaisi; equates Muslims to ‘wedding band party’

New Delhi: AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi called the three youths killed in police firing in Babupurwa during the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protests as martyrs who died for the community.

He further said that the position of Muslims in the Samajwadi Party, Congress, BSP and BJP is like a wedding band party and once the wedding is over they are the first to be sidelined.

According to a report by Jagran, he said that now Muslims don’t need to carry the flag of these political parties, but have to become a political force themselves.

“You have to choose a leader from amongst you. This can be done by making the party’s candidates win in the assembly elections,” he added.

Three young men had died in Kanpur’s Babupurwa, which was the epicentre of violence during CAA protests, due to gunshot wounds.

He also raised questions on SP leaders Azam Khan, Atiq Ahmed and Mukhtar Ansari being in jail.

During the rally, jailed mafia don and former MP Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen read his letter and indicated that she is open to contest from Kanpur on AIMIM ticket.

Later Owaisi also assured ticket to her.
