Chandigarh: According to a new development, a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) court will pronounce its verdict on the Ranjit Singh murder case on August 26. Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is one of the accused in the case long with Krishan Lal.
Ahead of pronouncing the verdict, the court has directed respective jail superintendents to present the accused on August 26 via video conferencing. Currently, Ram Rahim is lodged at Rohtak’s Sunaria Jail while Lal is lodged at the Ambala central jail.
Ranjit Singh was murdered in 2002
Ranjit Singh, who was a follower of the jailed self-styled godman, was gunned down by four persons on July 10, 2002. The incident took place in the Khanpur Kolian village in Kurukshetra, after Ranjit went against Ram Rahim.
Initially, special CBI judge Dr Sushil Kumar Garg had stated that the final order would be released on August 23 and had demanded the physical presence of the accused, Hindustan Times reported. The district attorney, however, cited the January 11, 2019 verdict against Ram Rahim when he was produced before the court via video conference.
Garg added, “In the present case, too, it is requested that the presence of the accused be allowed through VC in view of the possible threat to law and order situation. ”
The district attorney said that since the Haryana Vidhan Sabha session is scheduled to begin from August 20-25, the police will remain occupied and requested the court to push the verdict to a date after August 26. It was after hearing said arguments that the court fixed August 26 for the final order and directed Sunaria and Ambala jail superintendents to produce the two accused through video-conferencing.
