Investigators from the 12 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau want to inform the community of suspicious letter incident investigations.
There have been several reported incidents in the Region of Peel regarding residences receiving letters addressed to them arriving by mail.
Inside the envelope, a letter addressed to the person is accompanied by a small bag containing a white powder which is claimed to be fentanyl. The letter instructs the person to deposit Bitcoin in exchange for their family’s well-being.
The substance in these cases have been tested; it is confirmed to be icing sugar.
Investigators are advising the public to be careful when opening their mail. If you receive a letter and substance, do your best not to handle it as much as possible. Place the envelope and its contents outside, preferably covered to keep it protected and contact police.
