Chandigarh, Former Chief Minister and senior Congress leader, Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has condemned the attack on Sikh farmers living in Bhuj area of Gujarat state by land mafia. She said it is unfortunate and shameful on the part of Modi government at centre and BJP government in Gujarat for falling to tackle the situation regarding frequent attack being carried on Sikh farmers in villages in and around Bhuj region.
She said that farmers settled in the Bhuj region for more than six decades had been living under constant fear from land mafia which seems to have patronage from ruling party (BJP) in Gujarat. Senior Congress leader said that Sikh farmers have made repeated requests to state government and Modi government at centre to ensure security for them adding that it has fallen on deaf ears.
Bhattal said that Sikh farmers had been living in the region since 1955 and had contributed significantly towards economic well-being and prosperity of Gujarat. She said it is appalling that Anandiben Patel government in Gujarat has become mute spectator and failed miserably to tackle the situation in regard to protecting farmers who are feeling insecure and panicky.
She asked Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to earnestly take up the matter with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and intervene in the matter for providing durable security and alleviating fears of Sikh farmers living in concerning areas of Gujarat.
She said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi who claims to be messiah of common man especially farmers should personally take initiative and direct Gujarat government to be attentive and take effective steps to deal with the problems faced by Sikh farmers settled in certain areas in terms of providing security and inspire confidence in them.
