Month-long Vande Bharat Mission-5 to commence from August 1: Govt

The fifth phase of the month-long Vande Bharat Mission will commence on August 1, as the government has planned special flights to connect new destinations including Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Philippines to bring back stranded Indians back to the country.

Announcing the date of commencement of the fifth version of Vande Bharat Mission, Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “VBM continues to spread hope & happiness. Like we did before, we are further ramping up the mission as it dovetails into Phase-5 from August 1 to 31 August 2020.”

The minister went on to add that in a “dynamic process we will continue to add more flights and destinations to reach out to even more people around the world”.

According to officials in the Ministry of Civil Aviation, flights for the USA, Canada, Qatar, Oman, UAE, Australia, Germany, Thailand, Singapore, UK, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, New Zealand, Philippines and several other countries have been planned under the phase V of the mission.

The lead airlines in the Vande Bharat Mission Air India said, “Under the mission, we have already brought back more than 2.5 lakh stranded Indians from 53 countries.”

It further said, “We will be soon announcing a host of additional flights under Vande Bharat Mission Phase 5 starting from 1st August 2020.”

The Civil Aviation Ministry officials said, booking for flights under the month-long mission will be announced by separating the participating airlines in due course as per registered people with Indian missions in those countries.

The government had launched Vande Bharat Mission on May 7. The mission is in its fourth phase now. More than 8.14 lakh stranded Indians have returned through various means under the mission since then and out of which more than 2.70 lakh returned on Air India flights from 53 countries.
