Punjab’s COVID-19 cases have been steadily rising in June, as have its deaths. The state has been reporting a steady rise in cases—and deaths—in this past fortnight: a quick glance at the numbers show that 35 per cent cases state’s total coronavirus cases (1,789) and 44 per cent of the total deaths (57) have been reported since June 15.
Fifteen of Punjab’s 22 districts now have over 100 cases.
Three districts—Amritsar, Ludhiana and Jalandhar—account for 45 per cent of Punjab’s cases and 59 per cent of its deaths.
Additionally, Sangrur’s rising numbers appear to be some cause for concern—the district’s COVID-19 tally stood at 221 infections with six deaths, according to the state COVID tally on June 22, but has since risen over 1.5 times to 363, with death toll doubling since to stand at 12.
