No design behind police calls to officers, says ED

Chandigarh, The ED (Enforcement Directorate) top brass has given a clean chit to the Punjab Police. Certain ED officials investigating the multi-crore drug scam in the state had approached the courts, alleging they were being intimidated by the police. They had also alleged that the police were gathering information about them on the sly.
The police had asked RK Jaiswal, DIG, to approach the ED top brass on the issue. He is learnt to have told the ED that the names of three of its officials figured in a diary seized during a search operation at the residence of a suspect. Hence, calls were made to establish their identity.
The ED top brass is said to be “satisfied” with the police explanation. Not only this, the agency has given a clean chit to the police, saying the calls made to its officers seemed “unintentional.” A ED official said: “It has come to light that the calls were not made in connection with the Bhola drug case.”
