2 suspected coronavirus cases in Amritsar

Amritsar/New Delhi, March 7

Two Hoshiarpur-based men, who had reached Amritsar from Delhi on a flight, were suspected to be suffering from coronavirus. They have been admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Amritsar.

There is no coronavirus-positive confirmation from National Institute of Virology, Pune, said Union Health Ministry on the samples from two Hoshiarpur men. The two had high viral load. As per the Ministry, their samples are under test at NIV, Pune.

The Centre, has, meanwhile confirmed three more positive cases with two of them from Ladakh, taking the count of coronavirus cases in the country to 34.

The Health Ministry in a statement said three cases include two from Ladakh with travel history to Iran, one from Tamil Nadu with travel history to Oman.

Punjab Medical Education and Research Minister OP Soni said two persons in Amritsar have been suspected to be suffering from coronavirus. “Both have been admitted to the hospital and quarantined. Their condition is stated to be stable,” Soni said.

The flight that landed at Amritsar airport had 104 passengers and 10 crew members.

An official said, “We are trying to track all passengers and crew. All passengers, crew and their families will be traced and kept under observation.”

He said the official machinery had been put on the job.

Civil Surgeon Dr Prabhdeep Kaur Johal said samples of the two patients were sent to AIIMS, New Delhi, and National Institute of Virology, Pune, for confirmation.
