BJP to move motion in Maharashtra House to condemn Rahul Gandhi’s Savarkar remarks

Mumbai

With the Shiv Sena criticising Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s comments on Savarkar, the Maharashtra unit of the BJP is moving to exploit the differences between the two parties which are part of the government in the state.

Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis told reporters in Nagpur on Sunday that the opposition will move a condemnation motion in the state legislative assembly against Gandhi’s comments during the winter session which is due to begin on Monday.

Fadnavis added that he wanted an unconditional apology from Rahul Gandhi.

The BJP leader further hit out at the Shiv Sena for compromising on its Hindutva ideology in order to stay in power in Maharashtra.

“The Shiv Sena is trying to be good with the Congress by respecting Nehru and Gandhi,” Fadnavis said.He added that the BJP would raise the issue of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray postponing the expansion of his Cabinet.

“The state’s administration is stalled because the Cabinet is yet to be formed,” Fadnavis told reporters.

He also hit out at Thackeray for reviewing projects approved by the Fadnavis-led government before the recent assembly elections.

“The government is spreading misinformation about the state’s finances to postpone decisions,” Fadnavis added.
