On the day the Supreme Court severely criticised the Punjab Government for its failure to stop farm fires, the state surpassed past records of fire incidents.
This year, Punjab has recorded more incidents of stubble burning than the last two years. As per the data released by the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre, the state recorded 52,942 farm fires till Monday evening against 51,751 fires reported last year till this date. As many as 201 fire incidents were reported on Monday itself. The residue burning continues despite registration of nearly 1,700 FIRs against farmers for flouting the ban on stubble burning
