State proposes Ropar-Ludhiana railway link

Ropar

The town is likely to get new rail connectivity as the state government has proposed to provide land in case the Union Ministry of Railways agrees to lay rail line from Ropar to Ludhiana via Chamkaur Sahib and Macchiwara. Public Works Department (PWD) officials have already earmarked the land proposed to be used for this.

Chamkaur Sahib MLA and Punjab Technical Education and Tourism Minister Charanjit Singh Channi had on July 22 met Railway Minister of State Suresh C Angadi when the latter visited Ambala.
According to the proposal, nearly 46-km track will be laid. The new track can start from Bheora village on Ropar-Kurali track. From there, 100-150 feet wide strip of land along the Sirhind canal is available on most of the stretch. The toll road from Ropar to Doraha via Chamkaur Sahib and Neelon is also constructed along the Sirhind canal. The proposed new track starting from Bheora will merge with Chandigarh-Ludhiana rail link at Kubba village near Neelon.

Now, the PWD authorities are in touch with the Department of Water Resources, the owner of the said land.
