The Deputy Commissioner’s office in Fazilka has issued instructions to its employees to follow a dress code or face action. A letter issued today said Fazilka DC Manpreet Singh had noticed some male employees coming to office in T-shirts and some women without dupatta. “The employees are hereby instructed that men Superintendent Hardeep Kaur, who issued the orders on behalf of the DC, underplayed the issue. “Wearing odd clothes brings a bad name to the institution visited by a large number of people daily,” she explained. The DC could not be contacted despite several attempts. When contacted, Assistant Commissioner (General) Keshav Goyal refused to comment on the orders. omments on social media was later scrapped by Punjab CM Capt Amarinder Singh. Pardeep Gakhar, Superintendent, SDM office, Jalalabad, pointed out that the orders could not be enforced as the Punjab Government had not fixed any dress code for its staff.
Sources said Punjab and Haryana High Court advocate HC Arora had approached the Chief Secretary, Punjab, for directions to the DC to rescind the orders.
