Daduwal too wants Jathedar removed; Sikh bodies divided

Bathinda, Controversial Sikh preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal today demanded that the head of Sri Damdama Sahib, Jathedar Balwant Singh Nandgarh, be removed from his post. But various Sikh leaders, including the head of the Gurmat Seva Leher, Panthpreet Singh, Panthak Coordination Committee chief Kewal Singh, former Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib Giani Jagtar Singh Jachak, former granthi of Darbar Sahib Bhai Harjit Singh and Bhai Kirpal Singh, met at Damdama Sahib today and expressed support for the Jathedar.Talking to mediapersons, Daduwal said: “Jathedar Nandgarh has never taken up Panthic issues. He has the habit of going back on his word and has called off agitations on several occasions. He boycotted Gurpurb celebrations recently. He needs to be removed immediately.”But Sikh leaders at Takht Damdama Sahib spoke against the move to “unceremoniously” remove the Jathedar.“His removal will amount to degrading the post he holds. Jathedar Nandgarh has dared to speak on the importance of Nanakshahi calendar while other clergy men have succumbed to BJP pressure,” they said.Bhai Baljit Singh suggested that Sikh organisations could meet on the calendar issue after January 17 and decide the next course of action. Daduwal said a committee comprising experts, who had no political affiliations, could be set up to resolve the issue.
