The SGPC has constituted a committee to scrutinise the authenticity of missing manuscripts from Sikh Reference Library during Operation Bluestar.
The five-member committee constituted by SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal comprised Kirpal Singh Badungar, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Dalmegh Singh, Dr Amar Singh and Dr Roop Singh.
It was alleged that the Sikh Reference Library was badly damaged during the operation and the Army and other agencies had reportedly took substantial material in their possession.
The SGPC claimed that 205 handwritten manuscripts of Guru Granth Sahib saroops, 807 handwritten rare books, one hukumama (edict) and some newspaper copies were received, but the whereabouts of 307 handwritten saroops, 11,107 books and some rare manuscripts were still unknown.
Recently, reports surfaced in a section of media that some of the contents of library were returned by the Army and a handwritten manuscript of Guru Granth Sahib was sold off abroad for exorbitant price. Longowal said these were very serious allegations which demand transparent and thorough probe.
