Even after the passing of 26 hours, two-year-old Fatehveer Singh is still trapped inside 150-ft deep borewell outside his house on Sunam-Sheron road in Bhagwanpura.
However, the joint rescue operation of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Sangrur administration is on. The authorities are maintaining vigilance over the child through a small surveillance camera and officers are regularly providing oxygen supply inside the borewell. On Thursday night, the NDRF team had tied the hand of the child with a rope through camera, but he could only be pulled up to three-four feet and was stuck again.
“On Friday morning, the NDRF team with the consent of the Sangrur administration and the parents of the child decided to install 36-inch pipes in the vicinity of the borewell to rescue him,” said Harman Bajwa, secretary, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), who along with his wife and PPCC spokesperson Daman Thind Bajwa have been sitting on the spot since Thursday evening.
As per information, Fatehveer was playing in the fields near his house when he accidently slipped into the borewell. During the last 26 hours, JCB machines have dug up the borewell till around 60 feet but since now more digging may cause damage to houses in the vicinity, the administration has started installing pipes.
“To reach to the child, 10 pipes need to be set up and two have been installed. There is a difference of 2 feet between pipes and the borewell. The NDRF members will go down through these 36-inch pipes to rescue the child,” said Ghanshyam Thori, Deputy Commissioner.
