Akalis meet Shah, demand return of Sikh manuscripts

New Delhi

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today took up the issue of rare manuscripts and documents allegedly taken from the Sikh Reference Library at Golden Temple complex by the Army authorities during Operation Bluestar. The SAD urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to facilitate the return of all such documents back to the SGPC.

A party delegation led by SAD chief Sukhbir Singh Badal called upon Shah this evening in Delhi and apprised him that during Operation Bluestar the Army authorities had allegedly took away a large number of manuscripts, documents and relics belonging to Sikh Gurus from the shrine. He urged Shah to take steps to locate the material and return the same to the Sikh community with due honour.

After meeting the Home Minister, Sukhbir said, “The Sikh community is eagerly waiting for the precious treasure which the Army had seized.”

Giving details of the items allegedly taken away by the Army, he said, “These include important holy scriptures, artefacts, thousands of historical books and collection part of the Sikh Reference Library and relics belonging to Sikh Gurus and other Sikh personalities. These should be located and returned to the community with due honour.”

The SAD delegation also included Balwinder Singh Bhunder, Tota Singh, Prem Singh Chandumajra, Daljit Singh Cheema and Manjinder Singh Sirsa.
