There is no meeting scheduled as yet between PM Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Imran Khan in Bishkek, the Ministry for External Affairs clarified here today.
The two leaders will be attending the summit meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation on June 13 and 14. “To the best of my knowledge, no meeting is being arranged between PM Modi and Imran Khan on the sidelines of the SCO meet (in Bishkek),” MEA spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said today.
The MEA sought to dispel the impression that the three-day stay in India by Pakistan Foreign Secretary Sohail Mehmood was aimed at restarting conversation as a prelude to a possible meeting. Kumar, however, added the rider that if the two PMs happen to meet, India will convey the same red lines of terror to Pakistan as South Block’s position has remain unchanged. PM Modi will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the SCO Summit, the first meeting between the two leaders after the formation of the new government, Indian envoy Vikram Misri said on Thursday.
“In recent years, India and China have been able to build a mature and stable relationship. The summit between PM Modi and President Xi in Wuhan last year was a milestone and has been instrumental in taking our ties to a new height,” Misri said after opening India’s Synthite Industries’ manufacturing facility at Wucheng county in Shandong.
