West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee sent out a sharp political message while addressing a congregation at the Nakhoda Masjid today on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. “Hindus stand for renunciation (tyaag), Muslims for integrity (imaan), Christians for love (pyaar) and Sikhs for sacrifice (balidan). This is our beloved Hindustan and we will protect it”, she said.
“Jo humse takraega, wo choor choor ho jaega. (Whoever messes with us, will be destroyed). That is our slogan”, she added. Mamata is battling a resurgent BJP that won a record 18 Lok Sabha seats in the just-concluded elections.
“Sun rays are harsh in the afternoon, but gradually lose sting. Don’t be scared. They will fall with the same pace as they captured the EVMs”, Mamata said amid loud cheering. Accused of pandering to Muslim fundamentalists, she did not name the BJP. Abhishek Banerjee, TMC MP and Mamata’s nephew, and Anuj Sharma, Kolkata Police Commissioner, accompanied the CM to the congregation.
Meanwhile, the Union Jal Shakti Ministry today cleared major projects in West Bengal under the ‘Clean Ganga’ drive. Showing urgency, the ministry’s National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG signed a tripartite-agreement to raise sewage infrastructure worth Rs 592 crore in Kolkata).
It is clear the saffron party has already embarked on micro-planning for the 2021 Assembly elections in the TMC-ruled state.
