Harshvardhan takes charge as Health Minister, cycles to work

New Delhi

Chandni Chowk MP Harshvardhan on Monday took charge as Union Health Minister and took a briefing on sector challenges.Harshvardhan cycled to work to send a message on clean environment.

Harshvardhan was appointed Health Minister in the first tenure of PM Narendra Modi’s government but was shifted out in November 2014.

An ENT surgeon, Vardhan replaces JP Nadda in the ministry and must take forward the BJP’s flagship Ayushman Bharat Mission.

Nadda successfully implemented one-leg Ayushman Bharat Mission which provides Rs 5 lakh annual financial protection to 10 crore poor and vulnerable Indian families.

These centres will offer free screening for five cancers besides other primary-level services in villages. Coupled with Ayushman Bharat’s second leg–free and cashless hospitalisation–the project will provide a continuum of care to the poor–from primary to secondary and tertiary.
