Amit Shah chairs first regular security review meeting of top brass

New Delhi

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday chaired a high-level security review meeting, where he was briefed about the country’s internal security situation by senior Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials.

The meeting is seen as continuation of the tradition of regularly getting first-hand information about the prevailing security situation from top security officials, including the National Security Adviser.

Sources in the MHA said NSA Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Gauba, Intelligence Bureau (IB) chief Rajiv Jain and a few other senior officials gave detailed briefings on the different aspects of India’s security apparatus to the minister.

Apart from the hinterland, the Home Minister was apprised of the situation in Jammu and Kashmir, especially in border areas, an official said.

Holding a security review meeting regularly by the Home Minister has been a tradition for long and such a deliberation gives an overall impression on the latest internal security situation of the country.

While the secretary of the Research and Analysis Wing (R&AW), who also attends this meeting, gives an overview on India’s neighbourhood, the director IB briefs on internal intelligence inputs, the official said.

Getting first-hand information from top security brass is helpful for the Home Minister to articulate views and take policy decision, another official added.
