Drug is not a political issue for us : BJP

* Workers must work hard to take benefit of BJP friendly
atmosphere in Punjab: Kamal Sharma

* Party will make 21 lakh members by 31st March

Phagwara, BJP state president Sh. Kamal Sharma today asked the party workers to get benefit from the BJP friendly political atmosphere of state in order to expand party base in Punjab.

Sh. Sharma, who was addressing state executive committee of the party, said that people’s love for the party was evident in the ongoing membership drive where the party has managed to make more than 9 lakh members in less than 2 months. He said that this shows the increasing popularity and strength of the party in Punjab and I hope that by March 31, party would achieve the target of enrolling 21 lakh new members with the help of hard work put in by the party workers across the state.

The state BJP chief said that for the party, drug was not only a political issue but it is a issue relating to the future of Punjab. He said the party would fight a decisive battle against drug menace and its campaign would not only be limited to awareness over the issue. “Party is very tough on the issue and would not soften its stand and this has already been cleared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his radio programme. Our party chief Sh Shah has also clarified that drug was not only Punjabspecific issue but was issue of the nation,” he said.

National secretary of the party, Tarun Chugh, in his address asked each morcha of the party to work actively in the awareness campaign for the drug drive that would be started by Sh Shah.

Party’s state vice-president and membership drive incharge apprised the executive that the state body of the party would launch a special membership drive at each and every booth  of state on January 10 and 11 in which the workers would move in each and every house asking the voters to join BJP.

General secretary Rakesh Rathore, said that for the overall development of the party, formation of new bodies under the leadership of BJP was the need of the hour.

In the meeting, the executive was also apprised about the scheduled visit of national party chief Sh. Amit Shah who is visiting Amritsar on January 22 to inaugurate the party’s drug drive in Punjab where Sh. Shah would address a rally on the eve of the start of the drug drive.

The executive also discussed the emerging political scenario of Punjab, menace of drugs and the issues relating to the upcoming civic body polls scheduled in the month of February.

In the meeting, Union Minister Vijay Sampla, national general secretary BJYM & Gujrat MLA Harsh Sanghvi, cabinet minsters Anil Joshi, Madan Mohan Mittal, Chunnil Lal Bhagat, Surjit Kumar Jyani, CPS Som Parkash, KD Bhandari, vidhan sabha vice-speaker Dinesh Babbu, MLAs Manoranjan Kalia, Ashwani Sharma and senior leaders Brij Lal Rinwa, Prof Rajinder Bhandari, Tikshan Sud, party general secretary Jagtar Singh Saini, secretary Subhash Sharma and BJYM Punjab Chief Mohit Gupta was also present.
