Chandigarh, Bhartiya Janata Party will kick-start a state-wide awareness drive against the drug menace in Punjab from January 23 onwards. On the eve of the drive, the BJP national president Sh. Amit Shah will address a massive rally in Amritsar. In a press release issued from party head office, the Punjab BJP president Sh. Kamal Sharma said that main objective behind the drive is to sensitise the people in every nook and corner of the state about the terrible health threat to those taking drugs. He also informed that as a part of the programe to save Punjab from drugs, the party would run awareness campaign besides making sure that strictness is brought in the legal framework to deal with the evil menace. Sh. Sharma further said that in the first phase, the BJP’s youth wing Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) would organise the January 22 rally in Amritsar, which would be addressed by the party president Sh. Amit Shah. He said that on January 23 – the anniversary of the founder of the Azad Hind Sena – Sh. Subhash Chander Bose, an awareness rally would be taken out under the leadership of the BJYM national president Sh. Anurag Thakur. The awareness drive would tour the entire state and would culminate on Februay 2 – on the occasion of the Guru Ravi Das Jayanti at holy land of Kuralgarh Sahib in Garshankar tehsil of the Hoshiarpur district. He also informed that on daily basis the drive would be lead by one senior national leader of the party. Thereafter, the next phase of the rallies would be conducted in the months of Marcha and April. He added that in the second phase, the awareness rallies would be organised in all the 13 parliamentary constituencies of the state. During the drive, the party activists and leaders would meet people in cities, towns and at village level in order to spread awareness about the curse of the drug addiction. While exhorting the people of the Punjab to support the BJP in its initiative against the drug menace, which no longer is confined to few families, but the entire state is grappling with the crisis. He said that while on one hand, the family members of the drug addict suffers lot of trauma, at the same time, the addicts indulge in criminal activities in order to arrange the money for buying drugs. He also said that drug menace is contributing a lot in the increasing crime graph in the state. He said that until and unless the state is made drug free, Punjab will not become a “Swasth Pradesh”. He vowed to the people of the Punjab that history speaks that Punjab has always risen to the occasion whenever there has been a crisis. He added that in this hour of crisis, the people of the Punjab should show their nationalistic approach to support the BJP drive and to make the state completely drug free.
