Lucknow,
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati today charged the Modi government with discrimination against the Dalits and Other Backward Classes (OBCs), while awarding Bharat Ratna to Madan Mohan Malviya and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. She said the role of Dalit icons, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule and Kanshi Ram, in building a just and equitable society had not been adequately recognised. She criticised the Modi government for bringing in an ordinance to amend the Land Acquisition Act.“The ordinance is against the interest of farmers and my party will oppose it till the law is amended in a proper manner, taking every political party on board,” she said.Mayawati said the Centre and the Samajwadi Party-led UP Government had failed to fulfil their poll promises.Calling the promise of “achche din” hollow, she said the assurance to bring back black money and entitle each poor to Rs 15 to 20 lakh would never become a reality. She urged the Modi government not to indulge in hate politics where the minorities felt more insecure than ever. She reiterated her demand for imposing President’s Rule in the state, saying that the Akhilesh Yadav government has failed on all fronts. On the UP Government’s move to make Aamir Khan-starrer “PK” tax-free, Mayawati said steps, which could lead to communal tension, should not be taken .She said filmmakers and the Censor Board should be careful as India is a plural society where people of all castes and creed co-existed.
