Chandigarh, Making mockery of leadership crises being faced by Punjab Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal today questioned Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa whether he was comfortable being called himself PPCC President.
In a statement issued here, party Spokesman Mr. Maheshinder Singh Grewal said facing revolt from various factions of his party Mr. Bajwa was trying to counter SAD on non issues to keep the dwindling flock of disgruntled leaders of his group together. He also congratulated Mr. Bajwa for being President of PPCC for more than a year despite the ‘rotational headship’ culture of congress and advised him to quit the post gracefully as his party leaders were all set to dethrone him.
Showing mirror to Bajwa, the Akali leader said on which ground he was asking Punjab government to resign when his own block and panchayat level leaders were not ready to listen him. He advised Mr. Bajwa not to follow the age old tactics of Congress leaders to keep themselves in news as Congress had already advanced on a path that would lead it from newspapers to history books.
The SAD leader said Bajwa should not bother about the coalition and relations of SAD-BJP as it was not a political alliance but a natural alliance. He said people were convinced that five times Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and visionary leader Sukhbir Singh Badal were the only leaders who could watch the interests of Punjab.
Terming the statements of Mr. Bajwa as frustration of a desperate leader, Mr Grewal said that it was too strange that a person who was accused of having relations with notorious drug lords and arms dealers was demanding action against the SAD. He said it was shameful that the Punjab Congress was trying to politicise narco-terrorism imposed from across the border, out of sheer frustration after being repeatedly rejected by the people of the state.
He stressed that Shiromani Akali Dal has glorious history and led the freedom movement and struggle against emergency imposed by the Congress to curb democratic setup of the country whereas Partap Bajwa’s name has become synonymous with criminals and corrupt deeds, be it bitumen scam, Gujarat racket or recent charges of grabbing village panchayats land near Chandigarh. Besides, even former CM and deputy leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Capt Amarinder Singh in his communication to Congress president Sonia Gandhi had raised fingers on character and integrity of Bajwa due to his alleged connivance with drug mafia and people having terror links.
SAD leader said it was ironic that a failed, discredited and tainted leader like Partap Bajwa, who was now reckoned as “liability number one” by the entire rank and file of the Punjab Congress, was talking about liabilities in Punjab politics and espousing on SAD-BJP relations.
