Gurdaspur, Fearing that its senior leaders may not manage an impressive gathering, the SAD top brass has reportedly cancelled its anti-drug protest in this border township. Also, the BJP could have played a spoilsport in this parliamentary constituency, said sources.There are four senior Akali leaders in the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency which is represented by BJP’s Vinod Khanna. They are Chief Parliamentary Secretary GS Babbehali, former Speaker NS Kahlon and former ministers SS Langah and SS Sekhwan. All four have been asked by the SAD leadership to charter 100 buses each to bring SAD workers to Attari. “The transport business in Gurdaspur is controlled by BJP leaders. Also, it is no mean task to motivate the workers to participate in the rally,” said a halqa in charge.“In the Gurdaspur parliamentary constituency, of the nine Vidhan Sabha seats, five are held by the Congress and three by the BJP. Only one seat, Gurdaspur, is represented by an Akali leader,” said a senior Akali leader.But Ravi Karan Kahlon, who owns a fleet of buses, said he had no difficulty in transporting workers from Fatehgarh Churian to Attari.
