Chandigarh/Badal – The Shiromani Akali Dal will hold a state-level
Anti Repression ( Jabar Virodhi Rally) at Patiala on October 7 to
highlight and protest against the brutal murder of democracy by “the
unholy coalition between the Congress party and the state machinery
who functioned like a clan of gangsters during the just concluded Zila
Paishad and Samiti elections in the state. “The SPs, DC, SDMs, and
Tehsildars functioned as Congress election workers in this mockery of
democracy,” said a Resolution at the SAD Core Committee meeting here
today.
The meeting was chaired by the SAD president Sardar Sukhbir SIngh
Badal and was attended among others by the party’s patron-in-chief
Parkash SIngh Badal.” We waited for Captain Amarinder SIngh to
announce a date for his boast of rally at Lambi. But he has clearly
run out of steam. So people are coming to Patiala,”said Mr Sukhbir
SIngh Badal after the meeting.
Giving details of the decisions taken at the meeting, Principal
Spokesperson of the party, Mr. Harcharan Bains said that apart from
highlighting the repression in the poll , the rally would also focus
on putting pressure on the government to solve the problems being
faced by the people. ” Punjab is reeling under a corrupt,
indifferent and non-performing government which has gone back on all
the promises made to the people during the campaign for the February
2017 assembly poll and has brought governance, development and social
welfare activity in the state to a screeching halt. The rally would
be the first in a series of initiatives by SAD to enforce
accountability on the ruling party on its refusal to honour its
manifesto commitment to completely waive the farmers and the farm
labourers’ debt, raise the Shagun scheme amount to Rs 51000, old age
pension to Rs. 2500 per month, free sugar and tea for those covered
under the atta daal scheme, one job each for every household in the
state, free houses and 5 marla plots to every poor family, free
mobile phones to the poor, waiving of loan upto Rs 50,000 for the
Dalit families and many other commitments,” said the Core Committee
resolution.
The Core Committee said that the Congress’ resort to the illegal
and immoral means to win civic poll clearly proved that they knew
about the people’s wrath against them and tried to sabotage people’s
verdict with a five-fold attack. They first resorted to mass
cancellations of nomination papers, then cast fake votes en masse,
then captured booths, and on counting day, threw our party agents
out. But still unable to secure a verdict in their favour, they
finally declared defeated Congress candidates as winners, at many
places even altering the verdict after the declarations, ” said the
SAD Core Committee Resoution.
In another major decision, the SAD as a party decided to commence
the preparations for the celebrations of the 550th Parkash utsav of
the Shri Guru nanak Dev ji by organising a Kirtan Darbar and Dharmik
Samagam, at Sultanpur Lodhi on the evening of Novmber 17 his year.
Eminent exponents of Gurbani and alongwith celebrated Raagis will
recite hymns from Gurbani to spiritually enlighten and enthrall the
devotees in the evening, said Mr.Bains.
The Core Committee also decided to approach the Union Government to
request to approach its Pakistani counterpart in order to secure the
inclusion of Kartarpur Sahib shrine into India in exchange for a
mutually agreed piece of land elsewhere along the border.
The meeting condoled the demise of the president of the Bazigar Wing
of the SAD and a member of the SGPC, Jathedar Labh SIngh ji of Devi
Nagar on September 17., and the sudden and untimely demise of Sardar
Jaswant SIngh Gabhria, the younger brother of the President of
Bakward Classes Wing of the SAD, Jathedar Hira Singh Gabhria.
The meeting was attended also by S Sukhdev SIngh Dhindsa , Ranjit
SIngh Brahampura, Balwinder SIngh Bhunder, Jathedar Gobind Singh
longowal, Charanjit Singh Atwal, Jathedar Tota Singh, Bibi Jagir Kaur

SAD-core committee resolution
In another resolution, the core committee condemned the Congress led state government for committing ‘a brazen murder of democracy’ during the Zila Prishad and Panchayat Samiti polls. It said that the poll process was completely vitiated by the Congress goons under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh. A controversy was erupted, even at the announcement of the elections as the Congress in league with the state election commission, had hatched a conspiracy to keep off the rival candidates from the poll contest. The state government had delimited wards the illegal way before the ZP polls. After that the reservation process was tempered to make it suitable to safeguard the interests of the ruling party. It further said that unnecessary obstacles were created before the rival candidates while issuing no dues certificates and other mandatory clearances by the concerned authorities. Hundreds of SAD-BJP candidates were forcefully stopped from filing their nominations whereas nominations of 249 candidates were arbitrarily rejected on the frivolous grounds. It said that ministers, legislators and leaders of the ruling party were seen threatening and intimidating the rival candidates by slapping fake police cases against them during the campaign. Even on the big day, the ministers, legislators and leaders of the Congress party violated the poll code by indulging in booth capturing and bogus voting on a large scale.
This meeting not only condemns the congress party for using muscle power to win the elections, but it also terms the role of Punjab state election commission as utterly ‘irresponsible and partial’ , besides accusing it of conniving with congress party. It has shown concern said that a reign to terror let loose by the state government and the congress party had dropped the polling percentage by almost 12 to 13 percent against the previous elections. If the poll atmosphere was not violated by the state government, the poll results could give a shock to the ruling party.
The Meeting also condemned the congress government for misusing the state machinery to keep rigging the election process till the announcement of poll results. The candidates of SAD-BJP were stopped from visiting at the counting centers across the state. At some places, the congress candidates were arbitrarily declared winners despite the number of votes polled to them were marginally less. On the other hand, a large number of votes polled to our candidates were autocratically rejected by the biased authorities.
