Calendar row: Sikh groups back Nandgarh

Bathinda, Several Sikh organisations and leaders have supported the demand of Jathedar Balwant Nandgarh of Takht Damdama Sahib for reverting to the original Nanakshahi calendar.Jathedar Nandgarh has declared to celebrate the day on January 5 as per the original Nanakshahi calendar.He said as per the Bikrami calendar, the martyrdom day of ‘Chaar Sahibzaadas’ and the birthday of Guru Gobind Singh fell on the same day.Those who supported Jathedar Nandgarh are Bhai Panthpreet Singh Khalsa, head, Gurmati Seva Lehar; Giani Kewal Singh, former Jathedar of Takht Damdama Sahib; Simranjit Singh Mann, SAD (A) chief; Bhai Harjit Singh, editor, Sikh Phulwari; Bhai Baljit Singh, president, Eknoor Khalsa Fauj; and Karnail Singh Pir Muhammad, president, All India Sikh Student Federation. — TNS
