Ludhiana, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Vijay Sampla here today backed BJP state president Kamal Sharma’s demand for the resignation of Punjab Minister Bikram Singh Majithia.
Majithia was two days ago grilled by the Enforcement Directorate for his alleged involvement in the Bhola drug racket.
In the city to attend a BJP function, Sampla said whoever was guilty in the drug racket should be punished.
Asked to clear his stand whether or not Majithia should resign, he said, “I endorse what Kamal Sharma has said… The law will take its own course. If anybody, be it me, does any wrong, he should be punished.”
In the same breath, Sampla said mere summoning by the Enforcement Directorate did not prove anybody guilty.
On religious conversions, he said, “I support a stringent law against conversions. One should not change religion due to any greed or after succumbing to pressure.”
Warring innocent: Bajwa
Chandigarh: PPCC chief Partap Singh Bajwa has defended Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, who has been appointed India Youth Congress president, over the drug controversy. Terming the charges against Warring of having links with a drug smuggler as baseless, Bajwa alleged an effort was made by the police to divert the heat from Akali leaders and Majithia by cooking up stories against the Congress MLA. He slammed BJP national secretary Tarun Chugh for issuing “unsubstantiated” remarks against Warring.
