Appointment of Warring : BJP says Congress needs to gherao Rahul, not Amit Shah

Chandigarh, BJP National Secretary Tarun Chugh today slammed Congress leaders of Punjab who had yesterday issued a statement that they would gherao BJP president Amit Shah in Amritsar on January 12 when he comes to launch his drive against drugs from the holy city.

Asking Congress leaders to look within, Chugh said that actually the Congress MLAs need to gherao Rahul Gandhi who has appointed Amarinder Singh Raja Warring as president of Indian Youth Congress despite it being a public knowledge that he had been involved in case of providing patronage and protection to a drug smuggler Gurlal Singh.

It may be recalled that Congress MLAs Lal Singh, Parminder Singh Pinki, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Gurkeerat Singh Kotli and MP Ravneet Singh Bittu had yesterday issued a statement announcing that the Congress MLAs would gherao Amit Shah in Amritsar.

Chugh said that while issuing the statement the Congress leaders have conveniently forgotten the name of their senior leader and Jalandhar MP Santokh Singh Chaudhary who has also been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate for accepting payments from those who have been directly linked with drug trade.

“Despite this, if the Congress leaders try to disrupt a noble cause like the drive against drugs, BJP will resist the effort with all its might”, Chugh said.

Our party has a clear stand on the issue of drugs and even Prime Minister Sh. Narendra Modi has himself shown his concern publicly through his radio programme ‘Man Ki Baat’.

Instead of hailing a national leader’s drive against drugs, Congress MLAs and the MP have shown their immaturity and their insensitiveness about the deeply sensitive issue.

“These Congress leaders owe an answer to the people of Punjab. They need to ask themselves whether to gherao Amit Shah or Rahul Gandhi who has elevated Raja Warring to a national post after his name figured in a drug related case and even after their MP has been summoned by the ED.”
