Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress plans to gherao BJP national president Amit Shah on January 12 when he is scheduled to launch an anti-drug campaign in the state.Congress MLAs Gurkirat Kotli, Lal Singh, Parminder Pinki, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Tript Rajinder Bajwa and Ravneet Bittu (MP) today said the move was aimed at exposing the BJP “double standards” on the issue of alleged links of an Akali minister with drug smugglers. They said they would take on the saffron party on the “links” of the PA of a BJP leader with terrorists. They alleged Sharma had flip-flopped on the issue of resignation of Revenue Minister Bikram Majitha who had been summoned by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the drug smuggling case. “Sharma had sought Majithia’s resignation, but backtracked hours before the no-confidence motion came up,” they alleged. They alleged a “nexus” between the staff of state BJP chief Kamal Sharma and smugglers as pointed out in a report submitted by the DSP of Ferozepur. Pinki had earlier presented the report in the Assembly. It mentions that Sharma’s PA Jimmy Sandhu and his OSD Amarinder Singh Chhina were among those to have welcomed Sukhwinder S Chhinda after his release from jail. Chhinda was sentenced in a drug smuggling case. Sharma has denied the allegation as baseless. The Congress leaders demanded that the Centre should order a CBI probe into the matter. They said the PM had described Punjab as the worst-hit state by the drug menace. They said expressing concern was not enough and that measures needed to be taken urgently.
