CHANDIGARH, “It is a pride moment for whole of the state that Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has secured the 3rd rank amongst all the Indian Agriculture Universities.” It was said by Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu, Minister for Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries.
In a press communiqué, the minister said that Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), an apex body of Ministry of Agriculture, GoI, has released the ranking of all the universities of the country. The minister said that Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University was ranked at 9th position during the last year, so it is remarkable improvement of the institute in a short span of one year. He said that this year Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU), Ludhiana has been ranked THIRD among all the component institutions under National Agricultural Research System (NARS) and First out of all the Indian State Agricultural/Veterinary Universities by the ICAR,
Mr. Sidhu said that it clear exhibits the efforts and hard work of the staff, faculty and students of the university. Mr. Sidhu lauded the leadership and the guidance of Vice Chancellor Dr. A.S. Nanda for achieving this coveted distinction for the university.
In his message, the minister further said that it is an outcome of the contribution of the university in the production of quality international competitive human resource and improvement of animal practices in the state. He said that Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University is working day and night, who improve the production, animal health and income of the livestock and fish farming of the state. “GADVASU has developed niche-based technologies on animal health management, animal nutrition and many other aspects of animal husbandry, for the benefit of the farmers”, said Mr. Sidhu.
Animal Husbandry Minister further said that Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has designed a framework to rank all the institutes of India including State Agriculture, Horticulture, Veterinary & Animal Sciences, Fisheries Universities and ICAR deemed Universities on the pattern of National Initiative on ranking of Indian Institution, GoI. He said that the parameters for the ranking broadly cover ‘Teaching, Research and Extension outreach. It also include infrastructure and facilities, faculty credentials, academic and sports performance of students at national level, national and international awards/fellowships won by students & faculty, research publications in high impact journals, number of extramural research projects/ funding, international trainings, etc.’ He said that the larger objective is to improve the standards of Indian Universities in World University framework.
