Badal (Sri Muktsar Sahib), Under the leadership and endeavor of Punjab Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal to buoy Punjab’s own sport kabaddi to international heights the final
match of 5th World Kabaddi Cup is being held at ultra modern stadium of Rs 16 cr built in village Badal here. This state-of-art stadium would be inaugurated on December 20 during the final match of coveted event.
Giving information in this context today the Deputy Commissioner Sri Muktsar Sahib Mr Jaskiran Singh said that the stadium has been constructed at a cost of Rs 16.46 cr. Globally acclaimed and International Athletics’ Federation approved synthetic track has been laid in the stadium. The eight-lane track is 400 m long and has been imported from Germany at a cost of Rs 4.50 cr. The stadium has capacity to host international athletics championships.Besides this Rs 8.46 cr have been spent on the civil works which includes main pavilion of dimension 311 feet by 62 feet and two smaller pavilions of 96 feet by 42 feet each. For the spectators 1100 feet covered stands have been erected. The main pavilion has capacity
to accommodate 2700 game lovers, while the stadium has capacity to accommodate 12000 audiences. Besides athletics, the grounds can also host events of football, basketball and volleyball.
He added that the stadium is fitted with flood lights to hold day and night matches. Another Rs 3.5 cr have been spent on electricity works. The stadium would prove to be boon for the rural players providing them vaster opportunities and the best of infrastructure. The District Sports Officer Mr Sukhdev Singh Bhullar, XEN Mandi Board Mr Sham Bihari Kansal, XEN sports department Mr Sanjay Mahajan were also present.
