Jisna clinches gold, Sreesankar wins bronze

Quarter-miler Jisna Matthew clinched a gold medal to lead India’s medal charge on the second day of the Asian Junior Athletics Championships here today. Five other Indian athletes grabbed a bronze each today as India took their total medal count to two gold, one silver and seven bronze at the end of Day 2. Mathew, who had gone into the competition as the pre-race favourite and defending champion, clocked 53.26 seconds in the women’s 400m final to finish well ahead of Dilshi Kumarasinghe of Sri Lanka (54.03 seconds), and Jui-Hsuan Yang of Chinese Taipei (54.74 seconds). Shot-putter Ajay Bhalothia hurled the 6kg iron ball to a distance of 18.22m to pick up a bronze medal.
