Chandigarh, The Haryana government may have put on hold the contentious notification that required the state’s sportspersons to deposit one-third of their earnings from commercial and professional commitments into the state sports council but the diktat, with Principal Secretary (Sports) Ashok Khemka’s signature on it, left the Sports Department stumped.
The top officials of the Haryana Sports Department were clueless about when, how, and who moved the file on their behalf. “We have no clue when the process began and when it ended. We still haven’t got the file. We have received the notification only,” said Haryana Sports Director Jagdeep Hooda.
Worried sportspersons kept calling the Sports Department’s top officials to know the details of the order, but the department was as clueless as the athletes. Sources said in such cases the department provides facts and figures, the file then goes to the Sports Secretary, who in turn forwards it to the Chief Minister’s office. Once it is cleared, the file traces the same path back to the department.
Even as the department was busy trying to figure out the details of the notification, the government decided to withxdraw the order. At least for now.
