Voting process in Shahkot completed in peaceful manner

  • 73 percent votes polled till 7 pm

Chandigarh, May 28: Voting process has been completed in a totally peaceful manner in Shahkot constituency for by poll. Electors has turnaround in a big way to exercise their democratic right amid a hot and humid weather.

In a press conference here today Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab Dr. S.S Karuna Raju said that vote percentage is 73 percent till 7 pm, whereas the polling percentage is 78.60% at the previous assembly elections. He said that today 13 VVPAT machines, 1 Control Unit and 2 Ballot Units were immediately changed due to technical glitch.

Dr. Raju Further said that Indian National Congress (INC) lodged a complaint against Brij Bhupinder Singh lalli that he entered in a polling booth Number 90-91 in Malsian area with a pistol. Election Commission Lodged FIR with Model Police Station against the accused and Police arrested the accused immediately and one person have also been arrested from Umarwala Billa.

The Chief Electoral Officer thanked the people of Shahkot for turnaround in large numbers for voting. He has also taken credit for peaceful voting to the employees engaged in the voting process and the security personnel. He said that today no such incident or complaint has been noticed in the Commission’s view that the polling process has been interrupted.

The Chief Electoral Officer said that about 2500 polling personnel and 1044 personnel of Punjab Police and BSF had been deputed for peaceful election. Result of this bye-election will be announced on May 31. The counting of votes will commence at 8.00 am in Jalandhar.
