Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress resident, Mr Partap Singh Bajwa, today forcefully opposed the agenda of conversions being pushed by the Sangh Parivar outfits headed by the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh after the formation of the BJP government at the centre headed by Mr Narendra Modi while expressing apprehension that it might hit the delicate social fabric of the country and communalise the situation.
In a statement, Mr Bajwa said during the election campaign, the BJP and Mr Modi only sold dreams of development to the people and bring back black money keeping such nefarious designs like conversions hidden. Now when the party had succeeded in grabbing power, the party MPs and ministers was advancing one point agenda which was injecting poison in the secular body politic of the country to vitiate the political discourse.
He referred to the use of expletives by the Minister of State for Food Processing Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, recently from the Akali Dal stage itself while addressing a political conference in Delhi. Other MPs from the saffron brigade and the Sangh Parivar outfits were unabashedly pursuing their Ghar Vapsi agenda to forcibly convert people as had happened recently in Agra provoking all round outrage.
He said efforts were on to change history and saffronise the education system which was all the more dangerous trend as none could be allowed to play with history and the rich socio-cultural traditions of this country known for its unity in diversity. The BJP was now determined to shatter this unity with no respect for traditions and the values with which this great country is associated.
Mr Bajwa said the mild chastising of his party leaders by Mr Modi yesterday was not enough as what was a needed was a strong signal to the Sangh Parivar outfits telling them in strong words to desist from raising communal tension as the country had already paid a very heavy price.
He also lambasted Sakshi Maharaj , a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party & RSS and Member of Parliament from Unnao, trying to glorify people like Nathu Ram Godse, the killer of Mahatama Gandhi and said that mere withdrawal of these remarks by the MP had little meaning as the basic issue was the mindset of BJP leaders on such sensitive issues. The apology could be for public consumption but there was no indication that there had been a change in the mindset of the person eulogising the killer of the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi.
To prove his sincerity of respect for the father of the nation, Modi should expel Sakhsi Maharaj from the primary membership of BJP, he said.
He warned the Sangh Parivar against the communal agenda saying the communal elements would not be forgiven by the people. Keeping in view the explosive political situation in Pakistan and Punjab being a border state, RSS should refrain from any step which is seen as anti minority and can cause strain in social relationships he cautioned.
