Chandigarh, In view of the massacre of students in Peshawar school in Pakistan, Punjab has been put on high alert by Director General of Police Sumedh Singh Saini on the basis of intelligence inputs.
According to sources all the district police chiefs, police commissioners and the IGPs have been directed to start special patrolling near educational institutions, bus stands, railway stations, crowded places and religious places and keep watch on the activities of the anti-social elements.
Highways would be subjected to special checking during this heightened alert. Patrolling would continue day and night so as not to take any chance.
The border districts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Pathankot, Tarn Taran and Ferozepur would remain on extra-high alert.
Education Minister Daljit Singh Cheema has directed the education department officials to ensure tight security arrangements in all the educational institutions, both private as well as government.
The District Education Officers would make weekly rounds to check arrangements.
The Deputy Commissio9ners and the police chiefs have been instructed to make arrangements around these institutions. No outsider would be allowed to enter without permi
