Chandigarh May 3 – Shiromani Akali Dal today issued a final ultimatum to the Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to immediately issue orders to stop “the conspiracy to eliminate the proud and unparalleled history and heritage of the Khalsa Panth or face a worldwide popular resistance movement by the Sikh quom.”
A high-level delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal and the Bhartiya Janata Party will call on the Punjab Governor tomorrow at 11.00 a.m.
to request him to personally intervene in the matter and ensure that the teaching of history to school students of classes 11 and 12 continued in the same exhaustive pattern as before.
Giving details of the Core Committee proceedings, the party spokesperson Harcharan Bains said that the party president Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal has convened an emergency meeting of the Political Affairs Committee, the Working Committee, the General Council, all the Political Advisors , all the Zila and Circle Jathedars of the Party.
The meeting will be held at Bhai Gurdas Hall at Sri Amritsar Sahib on May 11, said Mr Bains.
A decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the Core Committee of the SAD at party headquarters here this afternoon. Former CM Sardar Parkash Singh Badal specially came over to take part in the deliberations in the Core Committee meeting which was chaired by the party presidentMr Sukhbir Singh Badal Mr Bains said that the Core Committee met for nearly three hours and expressed grave concern over the attempts by the Punjab government to play havouc with Sikh history. Mr Bains said that the Core Committee was firmly of the view that the matter was far too vital for the future of the Sikh quom to be treated merely as an issue of political difference of perception.
”This is a fight for the preservation of the proud Sikh history and heritage for the coming generations as it affects the future of our quom. The entire country and indeed the whole mankind looks at Sikh history as a source of immense moral, psychological and spiritual inspiration for the present and the future generations .The SAD will make every sacrifice needed in order to protect history and legacy of the Sikh quom,” said a resolution passed an emergency meeting of the Core Committee.
Later, talking to media persons, the party president Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal said,“It seems that the CM Captain Amarinder Singh does not realize the enormity of the damage being done to Sikh history by the decision of the government to delete it from the prestigious Board class of 12 in PSEB. “The CM needs to know how deeply the Sikh quom is perturbed over this anti-Sikh conspiracy to deprive the coming generations of our children of the legacy and heritage of the Khalsa Panth handed down to the quom by our great Gurus. There is still time for Captain Singh to pause and re-think and abandon the path of needless and dangerous confrontation with the Sikh masses, as the matter really has hurt the Sikh psyche very deeply. No Sikh, living in any part of the world, would ever tolerate these attempts to eliminate our proud heritage.”
Mr Badal said that he hoped that the Chief Minister would not stand on false prestige on this sensitive affecting the sentiments of Sikhs and Punjabis all over the world. “We are hoping that he would look beyond politically confrontationist posturing. For us, this is not an issue of political one-upmanship. I am sure the CM too would
realize the implications of the issue for the Sikhs and for every Indian all over the world. But time is running out. He must act in the right direction and must do so fast”.
Mr Badal said that his party wanted a solution, not confrontation. “But if this conspiracy and ugly plan to eradicate Sikh history from the minds of our children now studying in schools is not ended, then the SAD will not flinch from making any sacrifice that the Sikh history and heritage demands from us. The issue will then be decided
in the court of the Khalsa Panth. ” said Mr Badal.
A resolution passed at the Core Committee meeting said, “ This havouc being played with Sikh history in Punjab now is a part of a conspiracy to keep the coming generations ignorant about their proud history, heritage and legacy and thereby destroy their religious and cultural roots. The dangerous conspiracy is aimed at striking at the
very fountainheads of Sikh religion, that is , their spiritual heritage as recorded in history. ” said a resolution passed at an emergency meeting of the Core Committee of the party at the party headquarters here this afternoon.”
