Mayor John Tory got a head start on spreading some holiday cheer on Friday, dropping in on a public works yard in Etobicoke and treating employees to some Tim Hortons coffee and donuts.
According to Tory’s press secretary Amanda Galbraith, the mayor wanted to visit the Bering Avenue facility in order to “personally thank” the workers for their efforts in helping the city clean up from Thursday ‘s snow storm and get a better understanding of the role they play in winter-maintenance.
The surprise visit came after Tory held a town hall with city employees at the Etobicoke Civic Centre and could be the first of many, according to Galbraith.
“There will absolutely be more visits like this. The mayor feels it is important to meet with front line workers and city staff regularly to get a hands-on understanding of the work they do,” she told CP24.com. “It’s also a great opportunity to learn first-hand what he can do to make sure city staff and other workers have the tools they need to do their jobs.”
While at the public works yard, Galbraith said Tory got a tour of the facility and got behind the wheel of a salt truck, where he learned about the road salting process.
