Chandigarh, Punjab chief electoral officer V.K. Singh today said that aggregate 72.4 per cent voting had been recorded at Dhuri assembly constituency. He said that polling was peaceful and there was no report of any untoward incident from any polling booth.
Voting started at 8 am in the morning and completed by 5 pm. Except snag in one EVM which was replaced at the start of polling itself, all EVMs were functioned without any snag. As many as 166 polling stations were set up for about 1.51 lakh voters. He said that out of the total voters’ there were 80, 561 male voters and 71, 391 female voters. The fate of 12 candidates has been sealed in the EVMs.
Singh f said the counting of votes would take place on April 15, 2015 and the result would be declared on same day.
He said that district administration had made elaborate security arrangements for the polling. Large number of police personnel from Para Military Force and Punjab Policewere deployed at all vulnerable points. He extended his gratitude towards all the political parties and thanked the pooling staff and police for enabling free and fair conduction of voting.
Meanwhile 6 companies of Para military forces, 4 Flying squads and 4 static surveillance teams were also deployed for conducting peaceful by poll. He also said that two observers S.M. Sarkunde as General Observer and H.P. Meena asExpenditure Observer had also observed the poll on behalf of Election Commissionof India.
