24 standing committees formed; BJP to head 11, Cong 5

New Delhi,  Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has announced the list of members and chairpersons for 24 department related standing committees of Parliament.
While the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party grabbed 11 chairperson posts of these panels, the Congress will chair five, including the coveted committee on Finance.

The Trinamool Congress will chair two panels. Members of Bahujan Samaj Party, Telugu Desam Party, Biju Janata Dal, Janata Dal (United), Shiv Sena and the AIADMK will chair one panel each.

Rajya Sabha panels

The Committee on Commerce will be chaired by veteran BJP MP Chandan Mitra. Industrialist Vijay Mallya is in the 31-member commerce panel. The committee on Home Affairs will be chaired by Congress leader P Bhattacharya. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge, CPI (M) leader Sitaram Yechury and CPI national secretary D Raja have been nominated to the panel.

BJP General Secretary JP Nadda will chair the committee on human resource development. The committee on Industries will be chaired by JD (U) leader KC Tyagi. Former Law Minister Ashwani Kumar will chair the committee on Science and Technology, Environment and Forests. The Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, one of the largest panels in terms of departments considered by it, will be chaired by Trinamool Congress MP KD Singh. The Committee on Health and Family Welfare will be chaired by BSP leader SC Mishra.

The Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law and Justice will be chaired by EM Sudarsana Natchiappan. Lok Sabha panels

Former Oil Minister Veerappa Moily has been appointed as chairman of the Finance Committee. Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress general secretary Digvijaya Singh will be members of the panel.

BJP leader Hukm Deo Narayan Yadav has been appointed chairperson of the Agriculture panel. BJP leader Anurag Singh Thakur will head the committee on IT and veteran BJP leader LK Advani will be a member.

Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister BC Khanduri will chair the committee on defence.

BJP leader Rajiv Pratap Rudy is the new chairman of the committee on Energy. Former Minister of State in the External Affairs Ministry Shashi Tharoor will head the standing committee on external affairs. Congress Vice-President Rahul Gandhi is a member of this panel.

TDP MP JC Divakar Reddy will chair the committee on Food, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution. BJP MP Virendra Kumar will chair the panel on Labour. Karnataka BJP leader Prahlad Joshi is the chairman of the committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas. Former Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi will chair the panel of Railways. BJD’s Pinaki Mishra will head the panel on Urban Development. BJP MP Hukum Singh is the chairman of the panel on Water Resources.

Veteran Shiv Sena MP Anandrao Adsul is the chairman of the committee on chemicals and fertilizers. The Rural Development panel will be headed by AIADMK MP P Venugopal. Complainant in the coal scam, Hansraj Ahir, is the new chairman of the Coal and Steel panel.

The Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment will be headed by BJP MP Ramesh Bais.
