Bharopal border outpost, The Border Security Force (BSF) in a joint operation with local counter-intelligence wing of the state police today gunned down two Pakistani smugglers in the early hours near Bharopal border outpost in Amritsar sector today.During a search, the BSF seized nine packets (1kg each) of heroin worth Rs43 crore in the international market, some small denomination Pakistani currency and two cigarette packets from the site.At around 4 am, the smugglers were spotted near the border fence. They threw packets of the contraband on this side of the fence and opened fire when challenged by the BSF troopers. In retaliation, at least 172 rounds were fired by the BSF men. No shot was fired by the Pakistan Rangers whose outpost was just 700 m away from the spot.Ashok Kumar Yadav, DIG, BSF, alleged that the Pakistan Rangers were hand in glove with the smugglers. “When our squad went ahead to search the area near the zero line, the Pakistani Rangers along with two civilians proceeded straightaway to the location where the body of second smuggler was lying on their side. They picked up the body while ignoring us.“Later, a meeting was held with Pakistan Rangers’ company commander, but he didn’t divulge the antecedents of the deceased. Such acts raise doubts that there is a group of smugglers who are hand in glove with Pakistan Rangers,” he said.Counter Intelligence Wing Inspector Gurinder Nagra said: “We got a tip-off that an attempt to throw drugs would be made today. Our senior officers coordinated with the BSF officers and a joint operation was launched.”
