110 YEARS AFTER DEMAND, ANAND MARRIAGE ACT IMPLEMENTED IN NATIONAL CAPITAL FINALLY

New Delhi, February 2 : Anand Marriage Act has been finally implemented in the National Capital Delhi almost 110 years after it was first demanded by the sikhs. It was in year 1909 when first time demand to implement this act was made by the sikh community. Lieutenant Governor Anil Bajial has cleared the file to implement in this act in the National Capital. This was disclosed by the Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) General Secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

In a statement issued here today, Mr. Sirsa said that he was thankful to Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh and LG Mr. Anil Baijal for implementing this act the National Capital as this was long standing demand of the sikh community.

He said that as per the wish of the Shiromani Akali Dal President Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal to get this act implemented in whole country he was pursuing the matter with different governments and administrators. He said that act has already been implemented in all major states of the country including Punjab,Haryana, Himachal Pradesh besides others. He said that its implementation in the National Capital was of most importance as a large numbers of Sikhs are residing in the National Capital.

The DSGMC General Secretary also appealed to the members of the sikh community to get their marriages registered under the act and get the benefit of it. He said that anybody can get his/her marriage registered under the act though it may have taken place prior to implementation date of the act in Delhi. He said that registration under the Anand Marriage Act gives a different identity to members of the sikh community.

Mr. Sirsa further disclosed that he was pursuing the matter of implementation with those state where it is yet to be implemented and process to implement the act has been near completion in Bihar and Assam. He said that he was hopeful that soon it will be implemented in all the states and Union Territories of the country.
