UNION DEFENSE MINISTER ASSURED TO ACCORD COMMERCIAL STATUS TO ADAMPUR AIRPORT- SUKHBIR

Hoshiarpur, July 7 : Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that Union Defence Minister Mr. Manohar Parikar has assured to provide commercial status to defence airport at Adampur which would be give an impetus to economic activities in Doaba region besides facilitating the NRI belt on large scale.

He was addressing the “Samajik Adhikarita Shivir” function at Hoshiarpur as a chief guest along with Union Minister of state for Social justice and empowerment Mr. Vijay Kumar Sampla. Mr. Badal said he has personally raised the issue with Union Defence Minister and Punjab Government has also sent a letter to the concerned Ministry to use this airport for passenger activities.

While talking to media persons, the Deputy Chief Minister informed that Punjab Government would spent Rs. 10,000 crore to provide basic infrastructure across the state, which mainly includes Rs. 4000 crore projects for sewerage, drinking water, street lights in 150 towns. He said the work in this regard would start from September. Mr. Badal also announced that Rs. 5000 crore project has also been sanctioned to provide basic infrastructure in rural areas.

Replying to a question about the political campaign by former Chief Minister Captain Amrinder Singh, Mr. Badal said “he is not fighting for peoples’ cause but only to capture the captaincy of PPCC”. He questioned Captain Amrinder Singh that where he had spent his last decade?. He said after becoming Member Parliament from Amritsar since last May, 2014, he visited his constituency only twice.

The Deputy Chief Minister also made it clear that illegal mining would not be tolerated at any cost and directions have already been issued to all SSPs to register cases against the persons involved irrespective of their status. He also called upon the people to come forward to complaint directly to their concerned SSPs in case of illegal mining noticed by them.

Mr. Badal also said that after making Punjab the first power surplus state in the country, Punjab Government is set to link all cities with 4-6 lanes in next 2 years. He said projects worth Rs. 18000 crore have been sanctioned in this regard which mainly includes 4 laning of Chandigarh-Bathinda, Hoshiarpur-Phagwara, Jalandhar-Moga, Chandigarh- Phagwara, Chandigarh-Ludhiana. Deputy CM also informed that repair of all link roads would start after the coming Monsoon.

On the occasion Deputy Chief Minister along with Mr. Vijay Kumar Sampla distributes 20 motorized tricycles, 54 tricycles, 38 wheel chairs, 78 hearing aids and 38 artificial limbs to 188 beneficiaries costing Rs. 23 lakh. Mr. Badal honoured Mr. Yograj who is 70% blindness on securing 1213 rank in civil services examination and mentally retarded Mr. Sukhwinder Singh who have won Silver medal in Paraolympic games held in South Korea.

Punjab Cabinet Ministers Mr Surjit Kumar Jayani and Mr Sohan Singh Thandal, Mr Avinash Rai Khanna Member Rajya Sabha also addressed the gathering. Prominent among others present on the occasion included Surinder Singh Bhulewal Ratthan and Bibi Surjit Kaur Shahi both MLAs
